Schools & Education

  • “As part of our options pathway, our Year 10 students chose to focus on their fitness development using boxing as a vehicle for this. The sessions have had a great blend of fitness and technical focus and each week the students have improved in their skills, attitude and motivation. Brad’s approach with the student is spot on; clear, direct and supportive throughout. This unit is exactly what these students need at their stage of PE and Sport development at Bishop Challoner.  They now have the knowledge, skills and confidence to further develop their fitness independently.”

  • “I have enjoyed doing boxing because it has motivated me to pursue it further outside of school. It has inspired me to want to be fit and become an athlete.”

“I have enjoyed every lesson. My fitness has improved loads and I now have strong form when doing weighted exercises. Thanks Pat Benson for coming in and showing us all boxing and fitness.”

    student quotes Bishop Challoner School
  • “Boxing seems to be the one that focuses them; it really improves their social skills. As soon as they’re put onto the boxing intervention their attendance will go up; they’re motivated to come in every day to get on to the programme the next week.”
Paul Halfpenny teacher, Hunters Hill College
  • “All the students’ attitudes and how they mentally work is changing completely, they know how to control themselves a lot better and it’s helped everyone a lot.”

Daniel Harte student, Hunters Hill College
  • “I would describe our boxing experience with Brad as an incredible learning curve for both the students and staff. The sessions themselves were not only engaging but challenging for students who found themselves sometimes out of their comfort zones and thrived on the competitive edge of each session. On top of this, each week, the priceless experience of attending the Boxing Academy so that students could get a real feel for the culture and traditions of boxing in a real-life setting. This was an experience and opportunity that these students would never have had without Brad’s perseverance, guidance, and outstanding delivery.”

    Our Schools & Education Programme

We create positive change and genuine impact by engaging young people as part of an extra-curricular 6 or 12-week Boxing Award Programme.

All our programmes are delivered by professional qualified coaches and staff. Young people will work towards a Boxing Award, which is recognised through England Boxing, which can be delivered as part of a BTEC, GCSE or DofE Award. The boxing sessions can be delivered on site, or alternatively, at Pat Benson Boxing Academy. We can also offer sessions throughout the day or after school.

Through our schools & education programme, we have worked with over 350 8-16 year olds across Birmingham, whilst delivering over 250 hours of boxing to support schools in the development of happier, fitter and healthier children.

    Intervention & Behaviour Management

Our qualified coaches have worked with young people experiencing disengagement from the education system, anti-social behaviour, involvement in crime or being on the periphery of joining gangs.

Our boxing and physical intervention model focuses on managing challenging behaviours and motivating young people to make positive changes in all areas of their lives. Boxing and physical exercise gives young people the discipline and engagement they need to combat disruptive elements that are not only experienced in the school environment, but also in the wider community.

Young people will learn to communicate better, improve self-discipline, develop self-awareness, and learn conflict resolution skills through their involvement with our schools and education programme.

    Health & Wellbeing

An awareness and improvement of health, fitness and lifestyle are fundamental to concentration levels, school attainment, self-belief, positive choices and routines later in life. Our staff tackle rising obesity levels and health inequalities, both physically and mentally.

Pad routines and punching combinations will improve communication, team work, problem solving, as well as balance and movement whilst developing basic and advanced motor skills.

    Bradley Savage

Head of coaching at Pat Benson Boxing Academy

I have been leading our schools and education programme for the last 7 years, operating all over Birmingham and the Solihull area. I have worked with mainstream schools, PRU Centres and colleges, to deliver our bespoke 12-week Boxing Award Programme. Over these 7 years, I have seen young people develop confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth, all whilst developing a passion for fitness and boxing.

At Pat Benson Community Sports Foundation we are directly changing young lives across the city and tackling public health concerns in children, whilst supporting them to be the best versions of themselves.
